Rug type typically is a reference to a design which usually correlates to closest trading centre to which the rug was made. For example, Persian Nain rugs have a traditional look and colour pallet to them and are traded out of the city of Nain. This more or less is true for that of Turkish and Caucasian rugs as well.
When rug designs and colours are copied and woven in non-traditional areas, the industry will typically reference the rug to have a “Nain Design” and usually reference the country in the description.
An Indo-Persian is a rug manufactured in India (Indo) but a copy of a Persian Design. A Sino-Persian is a rug manufactured in China (Sino) but a copy of a Persian Design.
